VIDYA’s core focus is literacy.
For us, it’s not just a metric, and not just about academics or schools. We know we’ve made a difference when we rekindle a love for learning in someone’s life.

Our community classrooms are dotted with Reading Corners where books peep out of shelves– colourful and in multiple languages. Our reading program has a weekly “Reading Hour”. We celebrate the culture of reading with Lit Fests and Summer reading programs open to the community, making it a welcoming hub for writers, poets, artists and anyone with a passion to read and bring the magic of books to children. In fact, our very own book of poems, “My Voice, My Verse”, was completely written and illustrated by our children and is an outcome of one of our Lit fests!

“Reading Hats 2018” was a culmination of a teachers’ capacity building program VIDYA Mumbai, which we undertook with the generous support of the Australian High Commission. The event included book readings and enactments, and skits by our children, youth, and teachers.

The venue for this finale event was provided by the wonderful folks at Whistling Woods International.

It was one of the big highlights of our year, and we can’t wait to do another like it again!
