From a small seed, VIDYA has grown into a tree whose branches are expanding all over the country and helping the country’s most vulnerable populations. For thirty years we’ve been driven by this motto: “Educate. Empower. Transform.”; we wanted a day to celebrate this amazing journey as we look forward to far more to come.

We’re hosting an event you will not want to miss.

A Friend of VIDYA, the renowned artiste, Shankar Mahadevan, in collaboration with the Shankar Mahadevan Academy, has stepped in to make our 30th year an unforgettable experience. Shankarji has been training 600 of our kids in music, and on November 6th 2015, he will perform a concert with them in Delhi, and you’re invited!

Shankar Mahadevan has long been a household name for his talent, skill and incredible range in music. He’s a massive influence on the Indian music scene, both through his work with the supergroup Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and as an independent artist. He founded the Shankar Mahadevan Academy with the underlying philosophy of teaching and learning of music through “the joy of music”, using an online platform for music lovers throughout the world. The Academy has a presence in 47 countries and has conducted over 39,000 virtual classes in Hindustani classical, Carnatic and film music. Over 5000 students are enrolled with the Academy.

VIDYA is an NGO that focuses on education and empowerment for the country’s most vulnerable populations: it’s underprivileged women, youth and children. We have active, thriving programs in Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune. We work out of 40 underprivileged communities and have two of our own schools. The VIDYA School Gurgaon is a role model school – CBSE affiliated, K to 12, with excellent faculty, academic, sports and cultural instructions and outstanding facilities, including a robotics lab! It has over 700 students enrolled from the Gurgaon slums. Over the past three decades VIDYA has endeavored to provide outstanding holistic education to children from less privileged backgrounds. We also undertake other programs for social transformation: working with disadvantaged youth and women, empowerment through spoken english, skills, computer literacy, and high school degrees through NIOS.

We request you to donate to our cause. All proceeds from this event and donations will go towards providing education and opportunity to our beloved students.

The concert begins at 5:30 PM, Friday, 6th November at the FICCI Auditorium in Tansen Marg, New Delhi.
