The Artist

It has been a tough year for everyone across the world. It was a year that turned our lives upside down. And we are still a very long way from ‘the old normal’. But it’s high time we enjoyed an evening that’s beyond the pandemic.

And who more legendary than Usha Uthup, to lift up our spirits and make it a truly special evening? VIDYA is proud to partner with this supremely talented soul, who has so generously agreed to lend her time, talent and music to our cause.

Yes, we’ve decided to make a fundraiser out of this evening, making it all about our beneficiaries and lending them a helping hand to fulfil and their basic needs. After a massive emergency relief effort during the first wave, VIDYA is now going to extend COVID-19 relief support with long-term goals like health insurance and access to e-learning tools.

And we need your support and generosity at every step of the way. All the funds raised from this concert will go towards covering the insurance for its beneficiaries who may not have other ways to be shielded from this pandemic. A small contribution at the right time towards this noble cause can save a person’s life and also the family behind him/her.

Moderating the evening is a person who needs no introduction in the VIDYA Family – Ms. Vinita Bali, , former MD of Britannia and a business leader who has worked globally and continues to be a member on International and Indian boards in business, nutrition and education has very graciously agreed to be a part of our
special evening.

About the Artist

Born in 1947 Usha Uthup, or Didi as she is fondly called, comes from a traditional middle class South Indian family. Her career began in 1969 at Chennai nightclub called Nine Gems and she has recorded more than a hundred albums. She sings in Seventeen Indian languages and Eight Foreign languages. Usha has served as a role model for generations of young Indians and has been an unwavering ambassador for traditional Indian values. She has always worn a Sari (Kanjeevaram) fresh flowers in her hair, and her beaming smile has won her many fans.

For over 50 years now Usha Uthup has spread a message of love and unity, peace and harmony, tolerance and integrity, and happiness – all through her music. From discotheques to concerts across India and the World, she has addressed the youth about the values of music that makes us human. She lives as she believes, presenting even the most contemporary songs dressed in traditional attire projecting the fact that India is a true melting pot of world cultures with its own distinctive cultural identity.

Usha Uthup’s music has charmed generations of Indians, young and old. People smile, tap their feet, clap their hands, forget their worries when she performs.
