VIDYA India hosted a soul-stirring fundraising concert with the multiple award-winning singer-composer Sonam Kalra on Sunday, December 8th, 2019, at 6 PM, at Modern School, Vasant Vihar. Sonam Kalra is renowned for her mastery and fusion of several different styles of music, aided by the rigour of her classical training with Smt. Shubha Mudgal and Pt. Sarathi Chatterjee.
Her concerts are mystical and invigorating, blending sounds in ways listeners have never heard before. Classical tones are enriched by elements of poetry and spiritual texts, Sikh prayers blend with Punjabi and persian poetry, Buddhist chants and Sufi Qatas.
Sonam’s message is to reveal a universal truth: “there is one language— the language of faith, which comes from within.” Her concert on Sunday was a spectacular event, with the audience enthralled by the musical skill and versatility of Sonam and her diverse band of musicians.
“WITHIN- Songs of the Sacred” raised awareness for what VIDYA aims to achieve, and got people interested in sponsoring, mentoring and volunteering with our students and visiting VIDYA. Geeta Chandran, the renowned Bharatanatyam dancer and vocalist was the Chief Guest for the occasion. She shares VIDYA’s passion for the rights of women and girl children. She is known for her achievements in making dance not just an art form, but a part of an intellectual discourse.
