The need for digital literacy in a country as populous and diverse as India is critical in education, health care, citizen services, financial services, or any other basic need, technology, and connectivity. The huge difference in the socio-economic levels within the communities leads to difficulties in access to this knowledge.
The Digital Empowerment program, provides digital literacy and empowerment opportunities through different courses to build a competitive portfolio for the children, youth, and community members at large.
VIDYA’s Digital Empowerment Program (DEP) is spread across govt. schools that we work with, VIDYA centres, and in community centres, providing digital literacy to children, youth, and women. Across the globe, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is being recognised as a tool to directly address poverty reduction and to achieve developmental goals. VIDYA has joined the endeavour to bridge the digital divide by setting up the Computer Centre in govt. Schools, VIDYA centres, and within the communities. The aim is to make computer literacy accessible and affordable to existing VIDYA beneficiaries and to the local community at large, thus enabling them to explore new horizons.
The beneficiaries belong to the less-privileged sections of the society who are interested in computer training for their personal development, academic enrichment, or for better job opportunities, but cannot afford to undertake more expensive computer courses offered by other training centres. The students from the Beyond School Program and through our digital learning center in the communities attend computer literacy training. This is conducted on the basis of VIDYA’s Tailor-made Digital Literacy Curriculum in addition to the latest necessary tools which induce the creative, logical, and problem-solving skills of the children. In addition, we have students from NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) who learn computers; VIDYA impacts by holding digital learning through association with NIIT for basic computer training and also an advanced training program. We encourage our women beneficiaries at our VIDYA Centres to pick digital learning along with vocational training. Since its inception in 2010, 1000+ students have received NIIT/VIDYA certification in courses like Basic Computer Courses, Advance Computer Courses, Web Designing, Desktop Publishing, Tally ERP 9.0 Basic/Advance.
