“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”
― Ernest Hemingway

28 million people join the Indian ‘youth’ population every year and 50 percent are below the age of 25. While the natural instinct is to see this as a negative, we can turn it into a boon by making our youth an empowered and confident force to be reckoned with. Just like anyone else, all they want is an opportunity to channelize their energies in the right direction and find purpose and prosperity. If we identify their potential at the individual level and equip them with the right skills to make them productive members of a fast-evolving global society, we can meet that vision.

Or else, as unpleasant as this is to think about, they will end up becoming a part of a growing disgruntled population, adding to law and order problems.

But the only thing that will lead to that sad fate is ignorance, neglect and unnecessary pessimism.
There is much to be optimistic about the future of Indian youth, so we intend to do something about it.

With the support of EICHER Foundation, VIDYA has partnered with UNNATI to create a program to empower youth between the ages of 18 to 25. We launched this program on 22nd December, 2016.

The distinguished guests present on the occasion were Mr Shekhar Head of EICHER Foundation, Mr Gaurav Sharma  from EICHER Foundation, Mr Ramesh Swamy CEO, Unnati, Ms Dilruba Kalsi Executive Director PAN VIDYA and Mr Yash Paul Syngal Hon. CEO VIDYA.

The core philosophy?
“Learn, earn and stand tall.”

It’s a vocational training and transformation project which will help underprivileged youth secure stable employment. It involves a rigourous 50-day program for each batch, ending with an assured job on successfully completing the course.

The 3 basic philosophies guiding Unnati are:

  • If we train somebody we must be able to get them a job.
  • We must enable youth to be good and responsible citizens
  • They must be change agents in society

Here’s what differentiates this program from similar initiatives:

  • It’s a Short Term Program.
Unnati is a short, intense program of just 50 Days, from 9:00 a.m till 6:00 p.m every day. This will build focus in our students, while also being practical, engaging and easy to commit to.
  • There’s Finishing School Training
Every youth is taught Spoken English, basic computers, life skills, and values apart from their core vocation.
  • A Job is 100% Guaranteed
Unnati guarantees placement at the end of the training– often a corporate job that is a whole new world of opportunity for the youth we serve. This closes the loop by empowering them to stand tall on their own feet.
  • Overall Empowerment
The economic independence given to one individual helps his entire family. It helps the family to educate the other siblings and in a matter of a few years the economic status of the family changes.

We think this program is going to bring incredible value to the youth we serve!
