Letter from the Chairperson:
VIDYA for me has been a beautiful and exciting journey of learning and sharing.
It all started, 27 years ago, when I met five young girls, from a nearby slum, playing in a dirty drain on the edge of the IITDelhi campus and I invited them home to learn! They were thirsty to learn, bright and enthusastic and good at everything that you taught them!
It all started, 27 years ago, when I met five young girls, from a nearby slum, playing in a dirty drain on the edge of the IITDelhi campus and I invited them home to learn! They were thirsty to learn, bright and enthusastic and good at everything that you taught them!
What started as informal classes for children of the neighboring slum, with a group of dedicated volunteers, became a full fledged School. There was no looking back – VIDYA became a place where joyous giving took place and it became a learning centre for the entire community. VIDYA teams provided a holistic education, offered empowerment and awareness programmes to pre schooler’s, primary school children, youth that had dropped out of school, women and men.
Today VIDYA is a movement – a movement of social change! Although we have made a significant difference, to thousands of children youth and women, it feels like our journey has just begun! Our vision and our mission is our guiding force and we at VIDYA would like to see every less privileged child/youth/women receive an opportunity to learn and excel and be confident, proud citizens of our great land India!
We would like to make the VIDYA School in Delhi a role-model School to be counted amongst the best in the country. We would like it to be the fountainhead for developing professionals and leaders for tomorrow’s India.
We would like to see VIDYA’s outstanding grassroots programmes spread across the country and bring the light of education, confidence through empowerment and joy of giving through our volunteering programmes.
VIDYA’s success is because of the dedicated team work of a large group of people who take the leadership every day and share their expertise, love and help transform lives. I take this opportunity to thank all our partners, donors and friends across the world and our committed VIDYA leaders for their thoughtful contribution, trust and affection.
